Characters who died but returned, Marvel is known for not having to say goodbye to their audience if a character dies on screen. Since the franchise began more than a decade ago, we have seen many characters leave and then come back in other forms or resort to increasingly complex tools, such as multiverses or time travel.
Just recently, we saw it in Loki. In Avengers: Infinity War, Tom Hiddleston’s character died, but the studio wanted him to continue in the new Disney+ series. This is just one recent example, but there are many others, such as Black Widow’s return after dying in front of all members of the crowd in Avengers: Endgame. Scarlett Johansson’s return as Natasha Romanoff is a perfect fit within the universe of superheroes; it is so real that there is no cheating or cardboard – but t he universe of superheroes is so vast that there is no cheating or cardboard.

Nobody dies at Marvel: 11 characters who died but returned
Loki
In Marvel comics, Loki is also included in the list of characters who died but returned. Throughout the course of his life, Tom Hiddleston’s character has passed away in front of the camera several times, but he’s always managed to return safely. Thor: The Dark World was the first. Our deceptive God distorted his true nature by claiming he had sacrificed himself for us and then revealed his true identity. He really wanted war, and he wasn’t dead.
Avengers: Infinity War revealed the true nature of his passing. Then there is the fact that if you go up against Thanos, he can play tricks on you. That is what ended up happening to Loki. The character has not, however, left the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The exact opposite is true. A new era begins for him with Disney +, and we are going to delve much deeper into the fiction in the six episodes that comprise it.
Phil Coulson
Phil Coulson has also included in the list of characters who died but returned. Phil Coulson is another character who is usually able to return alive and well. Agents of Sheild fans are familiar with him. Fans have been led to believe that Agent Coulson’s life was over because he faked his death multiple times for his purposes. Even though he always managed to return, in season 5 he decided to stay in Tahiti with Melinda and stop being an agent. There, he died peacefully in his sleep. Nevertheless, Clark Gregg’s role did not end there. Coulson returned to the show in subsequent seasons, inhabiting the body of another character who later experienced his own resurrection.
Gregg also portrays a young Coulson in Captain Marvel, so we could see the character again during the 90s, long before the ABC series is set.
Groot
Marvel’s Cinematic Universe features the death of Groot, which is one of the most painful scenes. His facial features don’t express too many emotions and the only thing he says is ‘I am Groot,’ but he won our hearts when he refused to back down when asked to protect his new family, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Thanks to Marvel, we know that nothing dies at their studio and they have brought Groot back in a more endearing form than the little Baby Groot, who left so many happy memories in the franchise. The death of Groot not only added to the film’s impact, but also led to a more complex character and, above all, made it easier for the audience to connect with him.
Wong
A death by expression was wong. Doctor Strange portrays Benedict Wong as one of those who faces Kaecilius; he dies when a building crushes him. Stephen Strange was able to resurrect as a result of the Eye of Agamotto, used by him to reverse the effects of his death. Never die, or rather, never be dead. This might come in handy in future events in the universe, for example, the big battle against Thanos and his army in Avengers: Endgame. All of the disappeared were let through interdimensional portals by him.
Gamora
We mourned Gamora as well and continued to be part of the UCM after her death. When Thanos got his hands on his daughter, he no longer hesitated to throw her into the void in order to obtain the Soul Stone. The event that resulted in him taking over the Gauntlet that killed half of the world’s population was a wonderful moment in Avengers: Infinity War.
Gamora returns in Avengers: Endgame, but not as we know her. Gamora was much more violent and distrustful before she joined the Guardians of the Galaxy. The relationship with Peter Quill had exposed the warrior’s feelings, and it remains to be seen if she will be able to do so again in future Marvel films.
Black Widow
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who died but returned, there are no specific ways to return to the past or make a comeback? Several other possible scenarios are possible, and one of them is that of Nathasa Romanoff. In Avengers: Endgame, the Russian spy sacrificed herself to get Hawkeye ( Jeremy Renner ) the Soul Stone by throwing herself into the void in Vormir and she is also included in the list of characters who died but returned.
The superhero team relied on this point for their achievement: reclaiming the powerful stones and bringing back the missing through their fingers snap. Black Widow will allow fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to see Natasha Romanoff in action again despite her death. The events of Captain America: Civil War set the stage for the events of this prequel, which takes place after the hero flees due to the consequence of the Sokovia Accords. Natasha Romanoff’s return to the franchise is a good thing, however, Scarlett Johansson’s character still remains dead.
The Old Woman

Several more movies would pass before Tilda Swinton’s character made an appearance in Avengers: Endgame. Specifically, La Indiana’s version of the past.
The moment when the heroes get hold of the Infinity Stones occurs when they divide to travel to different points in the timeline. During that time, The Old Woman possesses the Gem of Time, which Bruce Banner / Hulk (Mark Ruffalo ) has the mission of retrieving. While battling the Chitauri in The Avengers, the resident of the Sanctum Sanctorum explains to the Emerald Giant that once they bring back the victims of Thanos’s snap ( Josh Brolin ) they must return all the Infinity Stones. They must return them where they belong. The Sacred Timeline is precisely what the Time Variation Agency (AVT) introduced in the Loki series protects.
Frigga
In the list of characters who died but returned in Marvel Cinematic Universe in Endgame, the Avengers visited the past and reenacted another character. The Dark World concludes with the death of Frigga ( Rene Russo ), the mother of Thor ( Chris Hemsworth ) and Loki ( Tom Hiddleston ), and the wife of Odin ( Anthony Hopkins ). Specifically, he was killed by Dark Elves when they invaded Asgard. The one and only Loki gave them a hand from the cell he was imprisoned in when angry and imprisoned.
Thor was reunited with his mother in Asgard when he went back in time with Rocket ( Bradley Cooper / Sean Gunn) to get the Reality Stone in Avengers: Endgame. Infinity War 2’s emotional moments are without a doubt among its best.
Thanos

The Infinity Stones were destroyed by the Titan, which caused them to travel to the past throughout the film.
What was the outcome of this ambush? Thor ( Chris Hemsworth ) finally gets what he deserved at the end of Infinity War: by cutting off his head. It was obvious that Thanos would return to battle the Avengers regardless of Thanos’ death. Once he discovered that superheroes were doing bad things, the past he saw transitioned to the present. Nevertheless, it ended the same way as Infinity War. Tony Stark’s fingers were snapped when Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) erased the Titan.
Peggy Carter
In the list of characters who died but returned in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Peggy Carter ( Hayley Atwell ) is the only character to die naturally. Steve Rogers / Captain America ( Chris Evans) visits an elderly Peggy in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Civil War portrayed the funeral of the Freedom Sentinel. The character of Hayley Atwell made a triumphant return to fans of the Avengers franchise in Avengers: Endgame. And twice.
Steve Rogers first encounters her in 1970, during Captain America’s journey to retrieve the Tesseract with Tony Stark.
