What is to come enters the honorary group of the most anticipated films of the coming years. One of them is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the third installment of the ‘space opera’ directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldaña. The director and screenwriter have already announced that this film will be the last with the original group that has led the trilogy. Still, it will also be different from its predecessors. And The Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad are to blame.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be different from the rest of the trilogy
Gunn, after his dismissal at Marvel Studios for the reappearance of some tweets he published years ago in which he made jokes about topics such as pedophilia and rape, signed for the DC cinematographic universe. His participation in the franchise has been the new installment on the villains and the series on the character played by John Cena. Sometime later, the company headed by Kevin Feige hired Gunn again, and the director is already shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Here’s how The Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad have influenced the new MCU installment: “A little bit. Making The Peacemaker was the most fun it could be during COVID, and I’m trying to apply that to Vol. 3. Honestly, I love the cast and crew, both first Guardians, but they were complicated to make. And a lot of that difficulty had to do with what I imposed on myself. I realized, after Vol. 2, that I couldn’t continue. Living if I did everything like I did Vol 2, which almost killed me unnecessarily. I needed to balance my life a little better. And that’s what I’ve been applying to Vol 3″.
As for The Suicide Squad, Gunn acknowledges in Variety that the film has made him adjust the way he is shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. ” I think The Suicide Squad has also instructed Vol. 3 a lot in terms of how we’re shooting it. There’s a different kind of sanity, I think, in this movie than we had in The Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad. I’ve learned a lot from everything that I do,” he concludes.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy installment, as Gunn comments, didn’t have to be easy. Not only because of the pressure of making a Marvel Studios movie but also because the characters it introduces were little known and might not have connected easily with the audience. However, the director managed to make the film and the characters some of the most beloved by fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe .
Before Gunn’s characters are seen again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, they will first appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, the fourth installment about the god of thunder directed by Taika Waititi. If you remember the end of Avengers: Endgame, Thor ( Chris Hemsworth ) decides to leave New Asgard, leave it in the hands of Valkyrie ( Tessa Thompson ) and go on a trip with Peter Quill / Star-Lord and company. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 plans to hit theaters in the United States on May 23, 2023. Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8 .
